JOURNAL H U N G S T E T H O S C O P E RIVELATA |
| STATS Doctor Gregory House Head of Department of Diagnostics, Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital
Date of Birth: June 11, 1959 (47 years old) Physical Appearance: Brown hair, blue eyes, 6'2" Orientation(s): Omni, poly, curious, flexible
PROFILE House is a board certified specialist in nephrology and infectious diseases, but his real specialty is solving medical mysteries and puzzles that have other doctors stumped. It would be a mistake, however, to assume that any of this makes him a compassionate, caring healer, or even a vaguely nice person to be around. House's sarcasm is matched only by his misanthropy: he makes a habit of being downright rude to patients (if he can't avoid interacting with them all together) and of manipulating and bullying those around him until he gets his way. He gets away with doing so for one reason: he's a genius, one of the best (if not the best) diagnosticians in the world; he's brilliant, he's almost always right, and he solves cases that no one else can solve.
He is also a cripple and a drug addict, both of which (well, certainly the former at least; his history of experimenting with substances of dubious legality extends back as far as his adolescence) are the result of an aneurysm in his leg that clotted, leading to an infarction. He experienced massive muscle cell death but he refused to allow his leg to be amputated. He requested, instead, to be put into a chemically induced coma after surgery had restored circulation in his leg. His intention was to sleep through the worst of the pain, but while he was unconscious, his girlfriend and medical proxy at the time, Stacy, consented to surgery to remove the damaged thigh tissue. The operation left him with only partial used of his leg and chronic near-debilitating pain. He uses a cane when he walks and he manages his pain with vicodin, often popping two or more of the pills at a time and always exceeding the recommended dosage per day.
House dislikes the complications that come with most personal relationships. He has never been close to his family, especially his father who was a pilot in the U.S. Marines and whose extremely strict and dictatorial rule constituted a de facto physical and emotional abuse throughout most of House's childhood. His romance with Stacy crumbled not long after the infarction in his leg. Now, he has only one friend—James Wilson, PPTH's head of Oncology.
HOBBIES AND SKILLS Hobbies: Playing the guitar and the piano, watching TV, avoiding clinic duty. Also, stealing Wilson's food, especially anything that Wilson has cooked for himself. Other Skills: Speaks Spanish, Hindi, Mandarin, and Japanese (though he often pretends he can't because then he might have to talk to people).
TIMELINES and CHARACTER NOTES
causticguy's journal is maintained for two RPG communities: Hungstethoscope and Rivelata, each of which follows a different timeline. (Posts for each verse are tagged.)
HungStethoscope A House/Chase slash RPG set during season four. The RP contains spoilers up to and including season four, and House is played with a canon background through episode 4.12 (at least--canonicity may change in the RP as future episodes are aired).
Rivelata Timeline departs from the moment when House was attacked in episode 2.24,"No Reason" (in which a former patient walks into the diagnostics office and shoots him twice—once in the stomach, once in the neck). Instead of waking up in the ICU as he does in the episode, however, House awakes in the setting of Rivelata.
